Democracy Is Alive & Well in Canada
I had an idea,
About the low voter turnout.
I thought maybe people do realize the importance of politics.
Maybe they do understand the terrifying economic situation we are faced with.
Maybe they do not vote because the politicians on offer are just too similar and inadequate.
I thought maybe they would vote for an independent candidate who says the things the others won’t say or are afraid to say.
And I was right.
I am gathering the hundred nominations required to appear on the ballot, and every person I have spoken to has been supportive and at least wished me luck.
Many people asked me which party I was with, some clearly ready to tell me off (rightfully so!) and when I said I was an independent, that was all it took. People who would not vote at all out of frustration with partisan politics, are nominating me.
One hundred signatures from my friends and neighbours is all it will take, and even if I don’t get that many, this work is it’s own reward. I’ve proven my idea. People do understand, they do care, and when asked to decide, people support democracy.
I need a hundred nominations to be handed in to the returning office/polling station at Kanata Centrum before the weekend. If you are of voting age and live within the riding boundary for Kanata & Bells Corners, please fill one out and turn it in before the weekend!
Even if you are planning on voting for someone else, you can still nominate me to be a candidate. I know many are planning to support the Liberal incumbents out of honest nationalism and desire for stability during these trying times, and I sympathize.
But the people deserve a choice, a protest candidate for those who are disenfranchised by the status quo, who want to voice their dissatisfaction with the current administration, but refuse to be deceived by the false populism of the traitorous Conservatives.
I tried to write a sentence here about the NDP too, but it was all profanity, and I will save it for them until we meet again.
Please nominate me, Jonathan Gibson Davis, as an independent socialist protest candidate for Kanata and Bells Corners.
Help me to give the people a choice.
Help me to prove to the next generation that they can do this too, that all it takes is a hundred signatures to prove we live in a democracy!
